Passenger space can make a Tahoe or Yukon useful for a business, but business ownership does not automatically make the entire purchase deductible. IRS Publication 946 states that the Section 179 expense cap for qualifying heavy SUVs placed in service in tax years beginning in 2026 is $32,000. The actual vehicle's classification and your use determine whether that rule applies.
Use the manufacturer rating
The heavy-SUV rule concerns certain passenger-oriented vehicles rated above 6,000 pounds and no more than 14,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. That rating is different from curb weight or what the vehicle happens to weigh on a particular trip. Provide the specific vehicle's certification information to your adviser.
Discuss other depreciation separately
The SUV Section 179 cap is not a statement that all remaining cost is permanently nondeductible. Other depreciation provisions may be relevant, with their own eligibility requirements and limits. Ask your tax professional to review the current rules, business-use percentage, acquisition timing, and elections rather than relying on a universal SUV write-off claim.
Buy for a useful business role
Compare passenger access, cargo room with the seats in use, parking needs, and operating costs. Ask Seth Wadley Chevrolet GMC for the VIN, equipment list, invoice, and expected delivery timing. Keep records explaining the actual business purpose and use. Your adviser can then evaluate a specific purchase with the documents needed to support the treatment.

Does the heavy-SUV Section 179 cap mean the remaining purchase cost is never deductible?
Not necessarily. The Section 179 cap and other depreciation provisions are different parts of the analysis. Your tax professional should review the actual Tahoe or Yukon's classification, business-use percentage, acquisition and service dates, and available elections. Supply the manufacturer's rating and purchase documents instead of relying on curb weight or a broad SUV write-off claim.
